Pick a Card, Toxic Validation, & Myth of the Empath

hey Reader,

Happy Monday! I don't normally send emails on Mondays but I had a few things I wanted to share with you.

We are coming into the holiday season and regardless of what or how you celebrate, these upcoming months can be really stressful. People's tempers are high, finances are tight, patience is low, and emotions are maxed out. It can be hard to stay grounded so I wanted to reach out, reconnect, and share some perspectives. Hopefully we can connect on a few things and keep each other grounded as we navigate the upcoming seasons.

I'd love to hear what you're working through right now, whether it's family pressures, financial stress, trauma recovery, or maintaining regular self-care. Also, share what you're working to accomplish or what you're proud! Go ahead and respond right to this email, tell me what's happening in your life! I promise I'll read it. We all need that every once in a while, a place to just unload our thoughts, feelings, and focuses. Even if you don't choose to send it to me, I do hope you'll write something.

Somethings I'm working through right now are:

  • Returning to classes at 38yo and being in a learning environment (both my professors are younger than me btw!)
  • Creating solid routines for home care, hanging out with my kids, and financial management (so bad in this area!)
  • Staying consistent with writing (and emailing you is one of the ways I connect with that goal)
  • Adjusting to teaching night classes as I attend morning classes (it's kind of weird, not going to lie)

I've shared a bit about my struggles in the most recent episode of my podcast. Check it out!

And if you're looking for a little guidance or mindset shift for the week, read my latest Pick-a-Card post on Medium. I pull some oracle cards on Sunday night and then post my interpretations for you to carry into your week ahead.

Also, I hope you'll read my most recent piece on empaths. I'd love to hear your thoughts! I think the idea of empaths can be controversial because so often we believe empathy is strictly a good thing but it can become a sabotaging behavior when we are undisciplined in our processing. (Also, just submitted my research topic on this so I can't wait to share more!)

That's it, friend. Have a wonderful week, Happy Halloween if you celebrate! Remember to drink your water, speak kindly to yourself, and don't forget to journal!

Oh and hey! The Midday Latte's Self-Care Ritual Guide and Journal has 5 stars on Amazon! (Get it here!)

If you're looking to build a new self-care routine or create weekly rituals to care for your needs, this guide is for you.

Reader, I know you're super busy and probably stressed so I'll keep this short. Rituals are simply practices or behaviors that allow us to shift our energy, intentionally. You may already have rituals present in your life; putting on your sunglasses and turning on the radio when you're getting ready to drive. This practice helps you get into driving mode. Or maybe when you wake up everyday, you go into the bathroom and wash your face, brush your hair, and put on deodorant. This is a waking...

Hey Reader, How are you? How are you really doing? I know this is a stressful time of year. And on top of the stress, this time is really emotionally charged, lots of expectations, and it can be hard to feel centered. During these high-pressure seasons, I never can seem to calm all the way down. It's like a constant and ongoing buzz of what I may forget, mess up, or miss out on. Can you relate? This happens to so many people, especially women, so I wanted to share with you my top 3 tips to...

hey Reader, If you're in the US, you know tomorrow is Election Day. I won't get into the details but let's just say it's a stressful time and we could all use some connection and reassurance. I wanted to share my most recent Pick-a-Card reading with you, it's for this week Nov. 4 - Nov. 9. I included a section at the bottom of each reading addressing the election and your mental health. I hope you'll check it out and let me know if this reading resonated with you. Also, I have a new episode...
